Still remember Celestian Tales: Old North, a RPG project from Indonesia that tried its luck by creating a crowdfunding campaign in Kickstarter several months ago? Unfortunately, the game developed by Ekuator Games was unable to reach the targeted $40,000 fund and currently no new update about the game. However, this story did not stop Bandung-based Jack Darwid from campaigning in Kickstarter for his creation, a trading card game titled Goblins vs Zombies. This time round, Goblins vs Zombies successfully exceeded the targeted fund – USD $12.212 from the targeted USD 6.000 – and set to be released soon!

The idea of this card game comes from tower defense game where zombie card will move towards your village. If the zombies can go past the village gate, you lose the game. Your job is to organize your goblins to fight the zombies and prevent them getting past the village gate. However, your village gate only had three posts, meaning there can only be three zombies at a time. This challenges you to put out a strategy in combining the goblins to make sure the zombies can’t enter the village.

This game was designed to be played by one to three players where each player will spend approximately 15 minutes to play it. There are 16 different zombies in total and they were categorized as Ground, Flying and Invisible and to fight the zombies, you have 23 types of goblins. You will get, in total, 98 cards packaged in the game box. There are five game modes:

  • Training – to familiarize you with the game mechanism
  • Last Stand – the one-man game
  • Survival – can be played by two to three players
  • The Boss – co-op mode to fight the final boss
  • Goblins vs Zombies – head to head mode between two players

This game was developed by two people, Jack Darwid as the gameplay designer and Wijanata as the card drawing artist. In the Kickstarter page description, Jack Darwid wrote that the production was completely done in Indonesia, yet they received many recommendations from US-based Print & Play Productions. Print & Play Productions will also help them publish this TGC in USA since most of Goblins vs Zombies backer (financial supporter in Kickstarter) resided in the country.
